Jazz pianists have the opportunity of becoming familiar with the fundamental techniques of the genre using this step-by-step course by Mike Cornick. The enclosed CD offers the opportunity of playing together with two professional musicians (bass, percussion) in a jazz trio. All arrangements however, can also be performed without the CD as piano solos.

Although each piece works perfectly well without the CD, it was much improved by the addition of bass and drums, and gave a good idea of what playing in a real jazz trio might be like. Particular favourites were Sam's Blues, Valse (watch the misprint on page 8 bar 39 - the score writes Ab in the left hand, but an A# is played on the accompanying CD), and Minimal Blues. (…)
