The BBC has launched its programme for the 2012 Proms.
The music of Pierre Boulez is featured in a number of concerts, including Dérive 2, Messagesquisse, Anthèmes 2, and Le Marteau sans maître. Daniel Barenboim and Boulez himself conduct.
Schönberg’s Gurrelieder are conducted by Jiří Bělohlávek, with Angela Denoke and Simon O’Neill as the main soloists.
Look out also for Alban Berg’s Violin Concerto and Luciano Berio’s Sequenza V for trombone.
This Saturday, BBC Radio 3 broadcasts the complete recording of Luke Bedford’s opera Seven Angels (video intro here). Nicholas Collon conducts the BCMG in a production by the Opera Group directed by John Fulljames last summer.
Listen online this Saturday 14 April at 22:00 London time (23:00 Paris, Berlin, Vienna) on BBC Radio 3.
To celebrate the first broadcast, we’ve uploaded the full piano reduction of the opera. Click below for a full screen view (also available on ISSUU.com).
The programme also includes Adams’ own Violin Concerto (with Leila Josefowicz as the soloist) and the US West-Coast première of Philip Glass’ Symphony No. 9.
Here’s an excerpt of Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten:
We thought we’d add a bit of company history to our new Facebook timeline.
Have a look right down at the bottom of the timeline to see a rather bold press release about the founding of the company in 1901, as well as news of our director, and a wonderful art nouveau share certificate.
For the first issue of our new newsletter Musikblätter, Pierre Boulez spoke to Universal Edition about his own music.
“Sometimes you discover yourself”
Happy Birthday Pierre Boulez!
