Sir Mark Elder and the Hallé Orchestra give the world première of Colin Matthews’ new version of Mahler’s Das Trinklied vom Jammer der Erde tonight.

The work is part of a complete performance of Das Lied von der Erde at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester.

Matthews’ version has a slightly lighter orchestra than Mahler’s original, giving the tenor soloist (tonight Lars Cleveman) a greater prominence.

Tomorrow night, the ensemble mini gives the world premiére of Klaus Simon’s new arrangement of Mahler’s Symphony No. 9.

Gustavo Dudamel’s remarkable Mahler series is fully underway in Los Angeles.

Tonight he conducts Symphony No. 9, and this Saturday Symphony No. 8 is on the programme, complete with the LA Phil, the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela and 16 LA based choirs.

Jonathan Nott celebrates his 500th concert with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra tonight, including Schubert’s 7th and Mahler’s 4th.

In honour of the occasion, the concert will be broadcast live on the internet from the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra website.

Gustavo Dudamel conducts Mahler’s Symphony No 2 tonight at the BBC Proms with the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra. They are joined by soloists Miah Persson and Anna Larsson and the National Youth Choir of Great Britain.

The Vienna Philharmonic opens its 2011 Salzburg Festival residency tonight with a concert of music by Alban Berg and Gustav Mahler.

Pierre Boulez conducts and is joined by Anna Prohaska, Dorothea Röschmann, Anna Larsson and Johan Botha.

Gustav Mahler’s grave in Vienna today, 100 years after his death. Floral tributes were made by the New York Philharmonic, the City of Vienna and Universal Edition, among others.

In advance of the 100th anniversary of Mahler's death tomorrow, here are a few pointers to activities, concerts and reports to be found across the internet.

The German Theatre Museum is showing the exhibition Gustav Mahler - Composer, Opera Director, Conductor until 18 September. The exhibition features the video interviews made by Universal Edition (you can watch them all on our Mahler Blog).

The Leipzig Mahler Festival starts today at the Gewandhaus with Riccardo Chailly conducting the 2nd Symphony. All concerts will be broadcast live on the internet by ARTE and the MDR.

Alex Ross has a round up of Mahler performances available on the internet, including Christoph Eschenbach's series of the Mahler symphonies with the Orchestre de Paris.

As part of the Mahler series at the Salle Pleyel, Valery Gergiev conducts the London Symphony Orchestra in Paris tonight (Monday 28th March). On the programme are Mahler’s 9th Symphony and the Adagio from the 10th Symphony.

The Festive Days of Early Music begin next week at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna.

We could argue about the meaning of ‘early music’ (in German ‘alte Musik’ literally means old music) and ‘modern music’, but we can safely call music that was composed a hundred years ago ‘old’. And it’s this music that will be presented by Klangforum Wien in three concerts this March.

The series begins with a programme containing Alban Berg’s Chamber Concerto, Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen in the Schönberg arrangement, and Schönberg’s own Chamber Symphony Op. 9.
