Work Introduction

The Enigma Variations, Elgar’s intimate portraits of his closest friends, were completed in 1899 and has gone on to be perhaps the composer’s most lauded works. This new edition for ensemble or chamber orchestra keeps the sparkle and warmth of Elgar’s original writing and grandeur of a full symphony orchestra. The arrangement works equally as well with either a string quintet or chamber orchestra strings (max. 6 5 4 3 2).
