Work introduction
This string trio is Krenek’s
homage to J. S. Bach on the 200th anniversary of his death. The complete Latin
title also refers to the composer’s method in writing the music; he used the
twelve-tone technique to express his reverence. A quote from The Art of Fugue identifies the homage
directly; scholars will also detect invocations of the name Bach; the second
part of the row’s basic configuration consists of the pitches B (B-flat), A, C
and H (B natural).
