Alexander Zemlinsky: New arrangements of 6 Gesänge

Alexander
Zemlinsky's Sechs Gesänge, based on poems by Maurice Maeterlinck, were composed as piano songs in
1910 and 1913 and orchestrated in 1924. They show the art of song writing at
its very best. The vocal part is characterised by sensitivity and simplicity,
embedded in a web of sensuous instrumental voices.
In 1921
Erwin Stein arranged Die Mädchen mit den verbundenen Augen
(No. 2) and Und kehrt er einst heim
(No. 5) for medium voice and chamber ensemble. To complete the collection, Andreas
Tarkmann has now arranged the other four songs for medium voice
and chamber ensemble. The world première of the new version will be given on 10
Oct at the Musikverein in Vienna.
