Liszt/Dupré: Ad nos, ad salutarem undam
Deutsche Radio Philharmonie
Franz Liszt used the chorale Ad nos, ad salutarem undam, originally from Giacomo
Meyerbeer’s opera Le Prophète, as the basis
for a Fantasia and Fugue. The “Prophet Fugue”, as he called it, is one of the most impressive works of a secular
character in organ literature. Marcel
Dupré, one of the great 20th century masters of the organ, arranged it
highly effectively for orchestra; it was considered lost until it was
rediscovered and performed again in 2007.
The Deutsche Radio Philharmonie and Martin Haselböck will record Ad nos, ad salutarem undam for a forthcoming cpo CD. In addition, a film of the concert is being made for the German/French culture TV station ARTE.
