Norwegian première of Arvo Pärt’s Adam’s Lament

Oslo

Adam’s Lament is based on a text by St Silouan of Athos, in which the monk laments Adam’s pain over the loss of paradise. Silouan’s sketches and writings are of great poetic power, and represent some of the most significant works in Russian poetry. The content and structure of the texts, which are sung in Russian, dictate the course of the music down to the smallest detail.

The Norwegian premières of Adam’s Lament and the Stabat Mater take place on 19 April in Oslo. Tönu Kaljuste conducts the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra and the Norwegian Soloists’ Choir. Also on the programme is Pärt’s Mein Weg for 14 strings and percussion.
