Première of Borisova-Ollas' Angelus
Glasgow
When Victoria
Borisova-Ollas received a commission from the Munich Philharmonic to write
a piece commemorating the 850th anniversary of the City of Munich, she immediately set off to visit the
city, as she had never previously set foot there.
One of her most powerful first impressions was encountering the sound of the bells announcing the Angelus service at the Frauenkirche. This service has also given its name to her orchestral work, which was premièred on 8 June 2008 under Sylvain Cambreling.
On 24 June Angelus will recieve its UK première in Glasgow with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra under Andrew Manze.
