Pieces for children's choir and also mixed choir

Arvo Pärt

Lieder aus der KindheitThis volume, Songs from Childhood, contains a selection of Arvo Pärt's music for children from the period 1956-1970. In those years he was involved with several children's studios and theatres as the piano accompanist and composer. Most of his music for children came about by way of improvisation in rehearsals and was only later completed and put on paper. These pieces therefore retain all the spontaneity and playful spirit in which they were created.

Vater unserOn 4 July 2011 Arvo Pärt performed his Vater unser (Our Father) for Pope Benedict XVI at a ceremony in the Vatican celebrating the 60th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood. Pärt also presented the Pope with a copy of the manuscript, which is dedicated to him.
To honour the anniversary, over 60 artists from around the world have been invited to contribute to a new exhibition of artworks. Amongst the artists are the composers Arvo Pärt, Ennio Morricone and James MacMillan.

Drei Hirtenkinder aus Fatima

Inspired by his visit to Fátima, scene of a famous Marian Apparition in 1917, Arvo Pärt wrote a small choral piece based on a passage from Psalm 8.3 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise.
The choral piece is dedicated to painter Gerhard Richter and first premiered in Basel (CH) in 2014.
