Victoria Borisova-Ollas wins Christ Johnson Prize

Victoria Borisova-Ollas (photo: Jonathan Irons)On 28 November, Victoria Borisova-Ollas will receive Sweden’s most important composition award, the Christ Johnson Prize. Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden presents the prize at a ceremony at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music.

Borisova-Ollas is receiving the prize for her clarinet concerto Golden Dances of the Pharaohs, which was premièred in 2010 by Martin Fröst and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. The judges recognised a “richly varied, rhythmically vital work with an exquisite timbre”.

Borisova-Ollas is the first woman to receive the award, which was founded in 1948 and carries a prize sum of 180 000 Swedish kroner.
