Victoria Borisova-Ollas wins Christ Johnson Prize

Victoria Borisova-Ollas (photo: Jonathan Irons)On 28 November 2011, Victoria Borisova-Ollas received Sweden’s most important composition award, the Christ Johnson Prize. Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden presented the prize at a ceremony at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music.

Borisova-Ollas received the prize for her clarinet concerto Golden Dances of the Pharaohs, which was premièred in 2010 by Martin Fröst and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. The judges recognised a “richly varied, rhythmically vital work with an exquisite timbre”.

Borisova-Ollas is the first woman to receive the award, which was founded in 1948 and carries a prize sum of 180 000 Swedish kroner.
