World première of the reduced version of Schreker’s Treasure Hunter
Schreker’s operas were among the most performed works of the Weimar Republic, and Der Schatzgräber marked an unprecedented success: 385 performances in 50 different productions are recorded between 1920 and 1932. But the Nazis denounced the opera as degenerate music, and it fell into oblivion after World War II.
Now, the first staged performance of Der Schatzgräber in Austria since World War II takes place thanks to EntArteOpera, Martin Sieghart conducts the Israel Chamber Orchestra.
