Sotelo: New work for ensemble

Klang-Muro ... II, the new ensemble work by Mauricio Sotelo will receive its world première on 29 May. Jordi Bernàcer conducts the Grup Instrumental de València.

Lulu – reduced version for chamber orchestra

Eberhard Kloke has created a reduced version of Alban Berg’s Lulu for chamber orchestra. The world première of the new version takes place this May at the City Theatre in Gießen.

Aspekte Festival 2012

The Aspekte Festival in Salzburg celebrates its 35th anniversary this year (9–13 May).

Mahler: Das Trinklied vom Jammer der Erde for tenor and orchestra

Colin Matthews was commissioned by Sir Mark Elder and the Hallé Orchestra to arrange the first movement of the Lied von der Erde. The premiere of this version of the first movement will take place on 10 May.

Karol Szymanowski: Sechs Lieder op. 31 for orchestra

On 15 April Sakari Oramo presents the first performance of the Sechs Lieder op. 31 by Karol Szymanowski in the orchestra version.

Francis Burt: New work

On 28 March Francis Burt's latest composition Variationen eines alten Liedes for clarinet, viola, accordion and double bass can be heard at the Arnold Schönberg Center. Performers: Ensemble Wiener Collage.

Mahler: Symphony No. 9 for chamber orchestra

Following the success of his reductions of Gustav Mahler’s Symphonies No. 1 and 4, Klaus Simon turned to the Symphony No. 9 and arranged it similarly. World première: 28 March.

Haas: New a cappella work

On 17 March the Bavarian Radio Chorus (cond. Rupert Huber) will give the world première of a new work by Georg Friedrich Haas: Duchcov for mixed choir a cappella.

Wolfgang Rihm at 60

On 13 March Wolfgang Rihm celebrates his 60th birthday. The breadth of his output can be experienced at no less than three world premières this March.

Bedford: New work for ensemble

On 3 March, the Britten Sinfonia will give the world première of another new work by Bedford: Three Intermezzi for piano and string quartet.

Rihm: World première Nähe fern 3

On 29 February Wolfgang Rihm’s cycle Nähe fern (near far) continues in Lucerne. James Gaffigan conducts the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra.

Bedford: New ensemble work

Luke Bedford's latest work for ensemble Wonderful Two-Headed Nightingale will receive its world première in Inverness on 17 February by the Scottish Ensemble. The soloists are Jonathan Morton and Lawrence Power.

Cerha: New work for seven voices

On 11 February Friedrich Cerha’s latest work, 2 Szenen (2 scenes) for seven voices, will receive its world première at the ECLAT Festival in Stuttgart.

Anne Dudley/Steven Isserlis: Goldiepegs and the Three Cellos

The expanded version of Anne Dudley's work Goldiepegs and the Three Cellos for narrator, violin, three cellos and string orchestra is now receiving its first performance in Padova.

Staud: New work for orchestra

On 9 Feb this year Johannes Maria Staud’s new work Maniai (ancient Greek goddesses of revenge) will be presented by the RSO Munich under Mariss Jansons.

Hans Sommer/Clytus Gottwald: Drei Lieder

Clytus Gottwald's new arrangement of Hans Sommer's Drei Lieder for choir will be performed on 29 January. Georg Grün conducts the KammerChor Saarbrücken.

Haas: New work for voices

Mlake / Laaken is the third part of Georg Friedrich Haas’ work SCHWEIGEN (Silence), written for the Escalier du Chant project. The première is on 18 December.

Schwartz: Music for Three Stringed Instruments

On 14 December Jay Schwartz' latest string composition Music for Three Stringed Instruments can be heard in Cologne.
