Suite of Imaginary Dances from Fictional Places
In a nutshell, these are dances that don't exist from places that don't exist. Or do they? Each imaginary dance comes with a brief description of the fictional place it is from, which may be recited by the performer or put in the program notes. I also encourage the performers to incorporate choreography, be it trying to emulate the dance in some way at some part while playing or simple adding some movement that resembles a part of the fictional dance. However, the music does stand for itself and can be performed without text or movement.
1. Flimsian “Wantz” (Blunt och Flimskin – Heart of Flimsia)
Flimsian people are almost all schizophrenic. They change their mind as quickly as they make it up. One of the most respectful forms of communicating in Flimsia is to strongly contradict what one has just said oneself, all within the same sentence.
Unfortunately, there is still a lot of street fighting in Flimsia, where the Flimsian people, also known as “Flimsies”, beat themselves up without any kind of rules. This mostly results in lawsuits they bring against themselves. In Flimsia there are two lawyers to a person, amounting to a total of 55 lawyers in the entire country.
The traditional dance in Flimsia is the “Wantz”. The “Wantz” is just like a waltz, except with an N. It is one bar in major, one bar in minor, with plenty of tempo changes, the theme being fifteen bars long with the last bar half in major, half in minor.
This “Wantz” is simply called: “Blunt och Flimskin”, or “The Heart of Flimsia.”
