Albrecht Marcuse (real name: Rolf Marbot) left Germany in 1932, where he had been a legal consultant in a music publishing house. He lived in France under the name Louis Sandret from 1942 – 1944. Due to his Jewish origin, his popular songs and folkloric chansons were condemned, especially in Germany.
