Work introduction

My sixth quartet is a single-movement work bound up with ideas of loss and remembrance, particularly in relation to the 9/11 attacks which took place just before I began writing. The piece is dedicated to the memory of my maternal grandmother, who died just after I completed it.

In fretta, in vento was written for the Callino Quartet.

Press reviews

In fretta, in vento "...is a single-movement work that seems to look back to slow, lyrical post-war music of Shostakovich and others. This makes sense because the music looks back in remembrance of lives lost on 9/11. Towards the end, solemn, hushed, 4-part chorales look back even further in music history in a way that is deeply moving."

(Anthony Aibel, New York Concert Review, Winter 2009. ConTempo Quartet, Carnegie Hall, New York)
