Work introduction
Sonata allegro form has always brought out the best in me. It is interesting how form has an influence on outcome. It can be something dull or something sweet. Sonatine is a perfect diminutive of sonata allegro form. The exposition development and recapitulation all need to be expeditious and concise. Despite all these constraints the musical ideas contained within need to be catchy and/or unforgettable.
As a pianist I once played Ravel’s Sonatine. So, writing a Sonatine of my own was, needless to say, a happy and joyous endeavor. In this Sonatine I made sure to include a copious amount of dexterous idiomatic writing for the piano. It is also very melodious. My composition instructor once told me to always integrate interesting rhythms and interesting harmonies into my music whatever I create.
To this end I consistently endeavored to write a musical homogeneous memorable Sonatine for solo piano, my instrument of choice.
This score is in A4 format.
