Work introduction

The short piano trio Prelude and Not-a-Fugue is one of Yu’s many homages to Johann Sebastian Bach. Although he quotes the German master’s works many times, Yu’s music never loses his own autonomous idiom; critiques of the premiere performance emphasise the composition’s brilliant originality.
