Biography
Graham Nathan Harris is based in London UK. He studied composition to Masters level at Royal Holloway and Surrey Universities.
He was Soundhub associate composer of the London Symphony Orchestra. He has been awarded national and international prizes for his works. In 2021-22 he gained four composition prizes. In Italy for his Piano Concerto (3rd prize), Serbia for his Piano Concerto (2nd prize), Vienna for his Trumpet Concerto (honorable mention), and in UK for his organ piece ‘Luce Prima’.
His piano trio 'American Wests' was performed by the Paddington Trio in 2024 in London.
Leading performers have expressed an interest in his works, and he has also had professional performances from concert pianist Nicola Meecham, and organists Kevin Bowyer and Francesca Massey.
He is a prolific composer, but composes in hugely diverse styles. He has written both solo and chamber/ensemble works, electronic works, and also orchestral works.
About the music
Graham Harris's music is essentially tonal, but has some elements of atonality. His music is often direct and statement-like, and hopefully will appeal to a wider audience. He has a propensity for music that has rhythmic drive and propulsive energy e.g. Laurel canyon for organ, his Piano Concerto and Trumpet Concertos. It is also very harmonic based. However, he also writes slower music that is atmospheric, and sometimes based on painting, such as 'Night Windows' based on the painting by Edward Hopper. The influence of Stravinsky, Tippett, and John Adams is sometimes apparent in some works, but he feels he has established his own particular voice in the last few years.
He writes orchestral music, chamber music, solo music, and also music incorporating electronics. He also has written electronic jazz/rock type music.
