Biography
Composer, improviser, and performer, Reza Madani studied Persian classical music, including the Dastgah system and the Radif, at the National School of Music in Tehran. He also studied Western classical music at the same school in Iran and continued his studies in the United States, at the Chicago Conservatory of Music and Saint Vincent de Paul University in Chicago, where he studied composition with the American composers Raymond Wilding-White and Philip G. Winsor.
About the music
With a particular interest in modal music, Reza Madani has conducted several research projects on improvisation and compositional approaches to music in Asia. His music is thus nourished by multiple influences, which are evident in his compositions for his instrument, the santour.
Explorations in National Music and Fusion
In his concert programs, in addition to his own creations, Reza Madani performs his adaptations of music inspired by Persian, French, English, Italian, Greek, Russian, Polish and East Asian traditions. He also produces shows where he fuses his music with dance in a wide variety of styles, including traditional, classical, contemporary, modern jazz, hiphop...
