Work introduction
"Three Oriental Visions" (2020) for the string orchestra and percussion. The titles of three parts - Jade Moonlight, Obscure Cloud, and Ray of Light - can be interpreted not only as natural phenomena but also anthropomorphic characteristics can be ascribed to them. My inspiration for these pieces came from Chinese and Korean traditional instrument orchestras that I have had the pleasure of experiencing during my travels and through radio programs. Each part of the orchestration has a distinct modal sequence of sounds, with pentatonic + 1 sound in the 1st and 3rd parts, and the whole-tone scale in the 2nd part. The interplay between the string and percussion instruments is crucial for creating harmonious colors, intonation, and timbre.
