Born in Stip, Macedonia, in 1982, the clarinettist Hidan Mamudov had his first clarinet lesson at the age of nine. From a young age he was strongly influenced by the folk music of his home country. In 2000 he began to study clarinet under Horst Hajek at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and graduated with distinction in 2007.
He spent a year at the University of Michigan (USA) under Sydney Forrest and another in Geneva (Switzerland), where he studied under Thomas Friedli. Masterclasses with teachers including Petko Radev, Charles Neidich, Stanley Drucker and Robert Spring complemented his studies. He has received numerous grants and prizes, including the Dr. Robert and Lina Thyll-Dürr Foundation Scholarship and a National Scholarship of the Republic of Macedonia.
Hidan Mamudov was also a finalist in the Ciudad de Dos Hermanas competition in Seville and winner of the Jeunesse International Bucharest (Rumania) music competition and the Concours international de Riddes (Switzerland). He performs worldwide as a solist, chamber and orchestral musician. Hidan Mamudov is also a member of the Wiener Tschuschenkapelle and of other Balkan ensembles.
