Koffler was an important figure in the Polish avant-garde music scene.
When the Germans marched into Eastern Poland, his family was taken to the Wieliczka ghetto, where they stayed until it was broken up in 1944, when they were publicly executed. Many of his works disappeared as a result of the events of World War II.
