Work introduction
Julian Tuwim’s atmospheric, almost secessionist poems inspired Karol Szymanowski to write an exquisite song cycle. The music is refined with wonderful, oriental-style melodic phrases, fragile and brilliantly chosen. The non-vibrato soprano voice itself – frequently accompanied by an instrument or a group of instruments in unison – has an almost instrument-like character. With Słopiewnie, Szymanowski created a unique and striking world that is a joy to explore.
