Alban Berg's Wozzeck - the setting of the Büchner drama fragment about the ‘Abyss of Man’ - is on the programme of Bayrische Staatsoper. The reduced version by the arranger Eberhard Kloke will be used, bringing Wozzeck back very close to Büchner's ‘Woyzeck’ and allowing the audience the greatest possible sensual reflection. The material about the human being, who is pushed into social misery by work and various deformations, is to be given a topicality that is not smoothed out by the art form opera. The proximity to performers and performance situations should make everyone feel like Wozzeck. Through the immediate proximity to the action, viewers can expose themselves to any change in sound amidst the sound.
