Universal Edition wins this year's digital publishing award in the category Product / Business Model for UE now.

UE now has been on the market since November 2019: It enables the distribution of digital sheet music and scores via tablet, smartphone and desktop. UE now's range of sheet music started with almost 1,000 titles and is continuously being expanded to include the entire Universal Edition catalog.

The sheet music is distributed worldwide and can be used by amateur musicians and professionals.

Scrolling through the sheet music works via foot switch or fingertips; the digital entry of markings and notes - collaboratively and visible in real time - is an advantage, as is the import of one's own music note files in any format. Your own and purchased sheet music is thus united in a library on the end device.

The jury's reasoning for UE now is

‘What is special about this submission is that music material is no longer published only as a PDF, but as a mobile app - for the first time for the classical music sector, private and professional musicians. UE now offers digital sheet music material in real time, making collaborative music making and working on sheet music possible for the first time. Many other helpful features allow for a particularly user-friendly use. Against the background that classical music publishers have so far hardly been seen as pioneers in digital innovation, Universal Edition contributes to the digital transformation of this industry. According to the jury, the chance of the offer could be that the publishing house acts as a platform provider in the future and integrates other publishers into the offer’.

The digital publishing award honors innovations in the field of digital publishing. The awards focus on outstanding products, processes or business models with which publishers, but also publishing-like players, publish their content. The digital publishing award is intended to highlight the prize winners* and recognize them as shining examples of paths to the digital future.

The digital publishing award was presented on 15 October at a digital conference during the Frankfurt Book Fair.
