Originally written, on request, to provide some light-hearted and entertaining repertoire for five pianists who wished to play in an ensemble on one piano. This resulting collection is a complete novelty and is bound to be an unusual and fun experience for players and their audience. It will also provide piano teachers with an answer to the question: "What would be completely different for the (school) concert?" Five pianists playing one piano will surely receive smiles and a hearty response from the audience making these pieces an ideal choice for the school concert. For studying free downloads of the single parts (2-5) available.
It's safe to say that Mike Cornick has discovered a gap in the market with these piano pieces for five performers, each using just their right hand and all playing on one piano. The book contains two original compositions - "Just the Five of Us!" and "Two Plus Three!" - and two arrangements of traditional music - "Charlie is My Darling" and "Water Come a Me Eye". According to Cornick, these four modern-style pieces are 'light- hearted repertoire', and are suitable for Grade 1-3 pianists. A separate copy of the music is included to make sharing between the five performers more manageable, and, if both copies are laid out on the stand, only one page turn is required in all the pieces. Accessible and fun novelty pieces! Pianist 4/2013
A highly unusual publication for fans of Mike Cornick! If, like me, you are looking for ways to encourage students to sight-read better this publication ist a real treasure. Give each pupil one of the parts to prepare and then arrange 5 players on 1 piano and have them play at the end of a pupils' concert - and you are bound to earn smiling faces in return! With only 1 hand to worry about, the satisfaction value will be guaranteed! Pieces are short and clearly printed and fingered, with good dynamics and articulation marks. The style in true Cornick fashion is jazzy to blues, with even a bouncy arrangement of "Charlie is my darling" thrown in. My favourite is the Jamaican "Water come a me Eye" which modulates half way through from C major to D flat - but if those flats prove too much you could end the piece before that moment.
