Universal Edition presents two sets of demanding piano works by pre-eminent and prolific post-war German composer Wolfgang Rihm. Telos Records notes that "...Rihm's music is unpredictable, with wide mood swings and shocking juxtapositions between harsh utter violence and gentle, lovely sounds." For advanced pianists.
Rihm's five pieces from 1969 clearly could not have been penned without the influence of Schoenberg. Rihm's miniatures are modelled on Schoenberg's celebrated Op.19 (Six Little Pieces), …… Ultimately, (...) this is a finely crafted work showing precocious skill from an extremely young and promising composer.
