From revered Swiss composer Frank Martin, Universal Edition presents a simple, lilting work written for his wife and daughter. For intermediate-level players.
My music dictionary of 1954 declares Frank Martin as the "outstanding Swiss composer of the present day - a composer of the highest integrity and originality". Martin carried out research in folk music but used fairly abstract harmonies; this is clearly apparent in the well-known popular French tune Au Clair de la Lune which he composed for his wife Maria and his six-year old daughter Anna Therese to play together. There are three verses or statements of the main theme with most unusual and original harmonies for the secondo player, giving the piece much variety of character. A delightful choice for any parent and child to perform in concerts or music festivals. Piano Professional 06/2011
