James Rae has selected a variety of pieces from Brahms's orchestral and song repertoire and transcribed them for clarinettists in their earlier years of tuition through to more advanced levels. From Cradle Song through to Hungarian Dance No. 5, this album will be a treasure trove for developing players.
This is another welcome collection targeted at early-intermediate players by the deft arranger James Rae for Universal Edition, Vienna. (...) the combination of Rae’s skill and the high quality of the 10 original works (...) suggests this volume is also for more mature performers who love the works of Brahms.

(...) In conclusion, this book bridges the gap between the Schumann Fantasiestücke and the Brahms Sonatas beautifully. Yes, some choices have complex accompaniments, but that’s the nature of this particular beast. Highly recommended for the budding Romantic clarinettist.
