11 days, 57 events, 14 world premières, 1000 choristers – this year’s Eight Bridges festival runs from 30 April to 10 May in Cologne.
Par là!, Johannes Maria Staud’s latest work for ensemble, will receive its world première on 6 May by Tito Ceccherini and the ensemble intercontemporain. The German première of his work Par Ici! will also be performed. In his two works, the composer refers to Baudelaire’s poem Le Voyage and to Friedrich Nietzsche’s Nach neuen Meeren.
On the following day Michael Wendeberg conducts the WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln in the world première of Jay Schwartz’ Quaerendo invenietis – Music for Orchestra V, which will be performed together with Pierre Boulez’ Mémoriale (... explosante-fixe ... Originel).
Also on the programme: Arvo Pärt’s Lamentate, organ works by Wolfgang Rihm and Morton Feldman’s Rothko Chapel.
