Festive Days of Early Music

A latent uneasiness, a vaguely felt inadequacy, a search in realms beyond the extant musical material – all of this had in fact first announced itself long ago and become audible in quite a number of works by masters of the 19th century. The great musical discoveries of the first half of the 20th century therefore were far less surprising than a superficial view of the matter might suggest.

On 18 and 19 march and on 1 and 3 April 2016, the Klangforum Wien and Forum Voix Etouffées present the Festive Days of Early Music, a music festival that focuses on works from the period in which New Music was invented and which are hardly ever performed today.

The festival kicks off on 18 March with Alban Berg’s 4 Pieces, Max Reger’s Eine Romantische Suite and Roland Freisitzer’s arrangement of Alexander Zemlinsky’s Sinfonietta.
