Highly acclaimed première of Gurlitt’s Soldaten in Osnabrück

Reading time: 1 min.

Two hours of deep tragedy and strong emotions: the Theater Osnabrück has rediscovered Manfred Gurlitt’s opera Soldaten. Director Florian Lutz has brought the work to the present time, conductor Andreas Hotz has proven the brilliance of the music. (Ralf Döring, Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung, 17.01.2015)

Although Manfred Gurlitt’s Soldaten [Soldiers] was performed all over Europe in the two years following its Düsseldorf première in 1930, the political developments brought the performance series to an abrupt end. Florian Lutz’ new production of the tragic opera was successfully premièred at the Theater Osnabrück on 15 January.
