As part of the Lucerne Festival, the Swiss premiere of Wolfgang Rihm's orchestral work ‘Jagden und Formen’ will take place on Sunday, 25 August 2019. The piece is so immediately gripping that it is already considered a classic of the modern age. As a ‘work-in-progress’ that has grown over the years, ‘Jagden und Formen’ has reached its final form in the version of 2008. It begins as a mating dance of two violins and increases to a breathless music of irresistible pull: virtuosic, intoxicating and exuberant with ideas, without ever losing the tension.
Wolfgang Rihm is the artistic director of the Lucerne Festival Academy. He is supported by internationally renowned interpreters of contemporary music, such as teachers and coaches of instrumental music. In 2019, the British composer and conductor Sir George Benjamin takes up an important position and conducts two concerts, also with his own works. This time, too, he will perform his own composition with the support of the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ACADEMY ensemble: At First Light. (Introduction with Sir George Benjamin and Wolfgang Rihm in concert, in German and English).
