My aim was to create a version for large ensemble (which can also be played by small orchestras with choral strings) that, despite the reduction, is not inferior to the original. Not a functional reduction, trimmed for a limited cast, but a variation that has the radiant timbre and also the untamed force of the original: a new guise for the original, without any losses.
Roland Freisitzer’s reduced version of Béla Bartók’s The Miraculous Mandarin for chamber orchestra or ensemble has its première on 16 October at the Musikverein in Vienna.
The arrangement of The Miraculous Mandarin can be performed by 24 musicians.
Furthermore Freisitzer’s arrangement for chamber orchestra of Alexander Zemlinsky’s Sinfonietta will be performed. Peter Keuschnig conducts the Ensemble Kontrapunkte.
