On 28 April a new production of The Threepenny Opera opens at the Staatsoperette Dresden. Christian Garbosnik conducts Sebastian Ritschel’s production, which is scheduled to run until 13 July.

Luke Bedford’s Faraway Canons for bass drum and piano will receive its world première on 21 April at the Occupy the Pianos Festival in London. The work will be performed by the piano and percussion duo George Barton and Siwan Rhys.
The reduced version of Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 will receive its Dutch première on 19 April at the TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht. Ulrich Pöhl conducts the Insomnio Ensemble.

On 8 October Tomáš Hanus conducts the first performance of the critical new edition of From the House of the Dead at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff.
On 15 July Leoš Janáček’s Katya Kabanova made a welcome return to Opera Holland Park in Olivia Fuchs’ highly-regarded production. Sian Edwards conducts the City of London Sinfonietta, with Julia Sporsén in the title role.
