Works by Peter Kolman
Biography
Peter Kolman was born in 1937 in Bratislava. After completing his studies at the Academy of Music in his home town, he initially worked as a radio journalist. From 1965 to 1977 he was director of an electronic music studio. In 1977 he moved to Austria where he worked as an editor for music publisher Universal Edition until 2002. Now he is active as a freelance composer.
Kolman’s compositions are influenced by the Second Viennese School and the international avant-garde of the post-war era. After twice participating at the Darmstadt Summer Courses, he held lectures at the Seminars for New Music in Smolenice in the late 1960s. He has composed chamber and orchestral as well as electronic music. Though the composer does not consider himself to be an exponent of any particular style of new music, his works do draw upon a number of impulses and reflect these in a very individual fashion.
