Description

These pleasing little studies have been written to help the student to develop a basic technique based upon the traditional teachings of Francisco Tárrega, Fernando Sor and Mauro Giuliani to name but a few. They are enjoyable to play, with memorable melodies, harmonics, and rhythms. The studies progress from relatively easy to more demanding pieces so it is an album designed to accompany the student on their journey as they advance from an initial to an intermediate standard. The contemporary style of the music is tuneful and light so that they are both fun and interesting to play and fingerings have been carefully considered for accuracy and ease of facility. As a benefit, most of the 26 Melodic Studies are also suited for exams or performance. Progressive studies for beginner to intermediate guitarists.

• Tuneful easy to middle-grade studies in accessible styles for developing technique (1 – 4)*
• Helpful “points to consider” are provided with every study
• All studies are suitable for examination purposes and also make attractive performance pieces

Carlos Bonell on 26 Melodic Studies

Paul Coles brings to these studies his combined skills as composer, guitar player and teacher and sets out a clear technical and musical route map for the student to achieve excellent results.

More than plain studies, he uses a pleasing and up-to-date musical language. Here are some pieces with catchy melodies, jazzy harmonic turns and foot-tapping rhythms.

I am sure they will inspire the student to learn and enjoy at the same time – an ideal combination!

Reviews

This is a well thought-out book from every aspect: design-wise, it has an attractive and eye-catching front cover and a very clear and easy-to-read score printed on high quality paper. As for the music itself, this is most appealing in the main. Each 'study' is titled and serves a didactic purpose, from holding notes for their full duration, improvement of slurs and staccato, through pieces to develop finger independence, bar chords, tremolo and left hand stretches. (...) This could be a very useful, instructive publication and would make a nice alternative to the more main-line studies for the grade 3-5 player.
