Work introduction

Resident in Australia, much of the Chinese composer’s music has been inspired by classics of European history; his Trio is a hommage à Johannes Brahms, based on the latter’s Symphony No. 1. The piano plays the leading role in all three movements, its rich, brilliant, virtuosic ornamentation reminiscent of Chinese music. The two string instruments add a dark, warm, Brahmsian tone, like a background for the piano.
