This selection of thirty traditional Christmas Carols for classical guitar includes some of the most beautiful carols from several countries, most of which are well known. There are also ten new compositions which, although they have no lyrics, are intended to create a festive flavour to complement the popular songs.
Written generally for the early to intermediate-level player to enjoy, there are a few songs that are a little more advanced but, in the main, they are simple arrangements.
If you would like to sing these carols, simple chord accompaniments and song lyrics are included. (Paul Coles)
Andrew Gough, British guitarist and teacher (http://www.classicalguitar.org.uk/):
“The 40 pieces will definitely be playable by many grade 3 - 6 students, however I’m sure there’ll be grade 7+ players who would enjoy them just as much and make use of them if doing a Christmas gig!”
Roberto Limon, internationally performing guitarist:
“I have passed beautiful moments reading and playing this wonderful edition. The capacity of Paul Coles to synthesize the melody and the harmony without losing the beauty of the original songs, show the talent and great experience and good taste in these musical arrangements by Paul Coles, besides enriching this kind of repertoire with his own compositions which are wonderfully written. I am sure that the ‘Merry Christmas’ album will be a strong incentive so young and mature guitarists are drawn near to the classical guitar world.”
