Work introduction

Bild is a self-sufficient composition in the Chiffre cycle. It can be performed live to accompany Luis Buñuel’s film An Andalusian Dog. Since that film cannot possibly be expected to support synchronous sonic action, Bild should join the film as an over-painting, or stand as a sonic figure or relièf – but on no account should it underscore the film, not to mention interpret it. Some suggestions: play Bild before or after the film, let it remain a silent – I think that is the most musical recommendation. Bild can also be cut up into parts and spread out over the film’s duration.
