In 1984, ECM brought a new sound into the musical world with the release of Arvo Pärt‘s „Tabula rasa“, the first album on the label‘s New Series imprint. Now, on the occasion of Pärt‘s 75th birthday, this special edition with enclosed CD has been produced by ECM in collaboration with Universal Edition. It includes manuscript scores of „Tabula rasa“ and „Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten“, published for the first time, and study scores of the album‘s four works. Rounding off the volume is a discography of Arvo Pärt‘s works on ECM with corresponding publishing details, as well as an essay by Paul Griffiths.
• Facsimiles of „Tabula rasa“ and „Cantus“ manuscript scores, published for the first time
• Complete study scores of „Fratres“, „Cantus“ and „Tabula rasa“
• Audio CD, text and photos from the original 1984 album
• Introductory note by Paul Griffiths
This extremely handsome production is a worthy tribute to what is without any shadow of a doubt one of the great recordings of the last century. Gramophone Magazine 01/2011
