Work introduction
This 6-minute piece is part of the thirty works for solo piano composed for my concerts or for educational purposes.
All these pieces have stylistic commonalities:
- a harmonic research mixing classic chords and other more dissonant ones
- the most often discreet integration in the same room of several different influences or references (baroque, classical, jazz, pop, etc.)
- a musical discourse that is always melodic, coherent and expressive
- an implementation of irregular rhythms within traditional measures
- a playing technique that plays a lot on the enhancement of accented notes
This is why all these pieces require good technique and a certain physical commitment.
In this piece, « A la croisée des chemins…» it will be necessary to differentiate the sound planes, to respect the many indications of stops which give fluidity and a relative freedom of tempo to the piece. The tempi indicated are minimum speeds to emphasize the piece but the piece can be played more quickly.
