Work introduction
Ave Maria was composed when the author was student at the José Angel Lamas School of Music at Caracas, Venezuela in 1977. By that time, González was impressed by the simplicity of Stravinsky's similar work, so, González decided to write his own 'Ave Maria' as a tribute of that great master model. We can listen in this work a straightforward and effective voices and harmonic structure movement. Also In this piece a formal and very important construction aspect is anticipated here and developed in later works such as: Mass for mixed choir, Sextet No. 3 for woodwinds and strings, Trilce for orchestra, Two Pieces for Max for soprano and trio of wind instruments and Amor América for low-baritone voice and wind metals. This formal construction element is -seen at a basic level- related to the use of very close interval distances between voices or instruments (minimum 2 voices), ie, the voices (or instruments) are related by second minor and major intervals.
