Work introduction
Alberto Schiavo composed Preludio all’aroma dei sogni for his final exam of composition. He had 15 days to compose this work for large orchestra.
“For the final exam of composition we had 36 hours to compose the first part of a Sonata’s movement or of a String Quartet’s movement (in my case I had to compose the first part of a Violin and piano Sonata), then we had 36 hours to compose a series of Variations for orchestra, 24 or 18 hours – I don’t remember well – to write an analysis (in my case of Alfred Schnittke’s Requiem) and then 15 days to compose a work for large orchestra or an Oratorio’s scene (for this part of the exam I compose Preludio all’aroma dei sogni). At the end we had also, of couse, the oral exam. This final exam was almost one month long and I’m proud to be still alive.” (Alberto Schiavo)
