GUGELFUHR - Madrigal for seven voices a cappella
Text: Christa Weber
For several years now I have been working on a new form of a cappella singing in which the singers are soloists, choir and orchestra in one. It is a conscious reduction to the voice and body of the singers. This creates the possibility of making every musical gesture audible down to the smallest nuance. In GUGELFUHR, seven singers embody eleven different characters or attitudes. Each of your utterances, be it moaning, snorting, laughing, coughing, giggling, singing, speaking, or whistling is a composed musical action that is supported from time to time e.g. B. by swinging a rope, knocking on a book, by hitting with a hammer, pliers, screwdriver, tin can, etc.
Stylistically, the piece is somewhere between contemporary vocal composition and traditional, classical ensemble setting.
Thematically, the piece GUGELFUHR deals with the isolation and alienation of the individual. They are partly poetic and partly dark dream images of people, torn out of their usual references. The second part of the piece is formed by the “apocalypses” of everyday life - black humor - in dialogues about bizarre suicides. As usual in dreams, the boundaries between comedy and tragedy are fluid and should also remain indefinite.
The work has not yet premiered.
