Maria Chiara Casà (1994), a Sicilian composer, conductor, and pianist, is known for her work in symphonic and chamber music. She studied composition at the conservatories of Palermo and Rome under the guidance of Giovanni D'Aquila, Antonio Di Pofi, and Stefano Mainetti. Numerous Italian theaters have commissioned her compositions. Her catalog includes chamber and orchestral works, music for theater and film, as well as songs. Her music has been performed in prestigious European theaters such as the Teatro Massimo and Politeama Garibaldi in Palermo, the Palladium Theater, Nuovo Teatro Orione, and Teatro Eduardo De Filippo in Rome, as well as the Bozar Theater in Brussels.
In 2015, she conducted the premiere of her work "Consolazione mirabile" in the presence of Sofija Gubajdulina during the "Neue Musik" revue at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. With her musical fairy tale "Il piccolo principe," she won the prominent composition competition "Per Spartito Preso" organized by the Associazione degli Amici della Musica di Palermo, with the premiere taking place at the Teatro Politeama Garibaldi in Palermo. Her works are currently published by Casa Musicale Sonzogno and Universal Edition.
Her musical language incorporates key techniques of avant-garde music, with a particular focus on minimalism, neotonalism, and spectralism, along with influences from pop music. Casà describes her music as ranging from singer-songwriter pieces to symphonic works, from "cultivated" music to music for cinema and theater. She characterizes her instrumental works as postmodern and postminimalist.
