Description
In 1543 the great Belgian anatomist Andrea Vesalius (1514-1564) published his book de Humani corporis fabrica, laying the foundations of modern anatomy. Since that time - and encouraged by scientific development - the body has been studied, analyzed, intervened and modified in numerous ways, from the forms of representation for its knowledge to the advances in genetic engineering that open up the possibility of body design.
Today we are at the beginning of what is a new paradigm as questions arise in the face of technological progress and the potential application on the human body as never before. We refer to the political field in which these technologies can be inscribed, i.e. bio-power. Thus, from the orthopedics that sought to correct the abnormal in the eighteenth century, today we see the machinic advance of technology that -like the disturbing cyber implants of today- can, in a realizable dystopia, normalize and monitor the body.
