Description
Entitled "Flamenco Fantasy," this piece was originally composed for solo violin. However, at the invitation of the great Spanish viola player, Isabel Villanueva, I undertook the task of transcribing it for the viola. To my delight and surprise, the adaptation not only retained its essence but, in many ways, blossomed even more profoundly on the viola.
The instrument's inherently darker timbre proved to be perfect for capturing the evocative essence of flamenco music. While rooted in the traditional scales characteristic of flamenco, my piece embracing a freedom in rhythm and meter that reflects a modern reimagining of this rich musical tradition. "Flamenco Fantasy" is a deeply personal exploration, offering a unique perspective on the flamenco genre through my own artistic lens.
