Explanation is (for me) impossible. To what distrust in the view, the listening, do we owe those indications provided like a type of anticipatory service, the alleged “hearing aids,” the all-indicative “THAT IS TO SAY”?
We do not trust our own affairs, nor another possible apprehension by another? – as if the work were obtuse and the recipient were dull? – a priori dull and obtuse? The work needs enlightenment, just like the one who encounters it? Shrivelled to a point for explanation, the work is silenced, along with all its possibilities. Misunderstandings are among those possibilities; wishing to clear them away as a precaution reveals housecleaning mentality.
And integrating such a “benefit” at the outset – or in retrospect – cannot figure in an artist’s ideal concept. I believe in the genuine incomprehensibility and inconsistency of art.
